This Friday we are going to be talking about Reverse Masking. Simply put, instead of making a mask for a specific image to stamp over, we will be making a mask to stamp in.
The supplies used for this mini tutorial are Ranger Nonstick Craft Sheet, Ranger Snow Cap and Bottle Pigment Inks, Tsukineko Sponge Dauber, Spellbinders Petite Oval Nestabilities, Stamp Oasis Winter Holiday Collection Evergreen set SKU:689 690 694 SO and Snowflake Background SKU:1200 SO, Plastic Sheet, Cardstock
Because I want to keep the mask for future use, I cut off the top of a plastic box to use as my mask. You can use a piece of acetate, paper, whatever you have on hand. I like my masks to be clear so that I can see through them and align my paper and then I keep them all together on a ring. I lined up the Oval Nestability and marked where I wanted my cutout to be. You can do the same with a coluzzle or any other object that you have.
To begin, place your mask over your cardstock. I taped mine down to keep it from sliding. Sponge inside the oval with Snow Cap ink.
Next, ink your background stamp in Snow Cap, and with the mask remaining in place, stamp your background over the sponged area.
With the mask still in place (even though this picture does not show it), ink the tree and stamp inside your mask. If you wish for your main image to prominent, you can remove the mask and stamp over your oval, letting your image be larger than the sponged area.
This is the final masked area when done sponging and stamping.
Complete your card.

I love all your tutorials! I met you at the Expo show in San Antonio last fall and haven't stopped using everything I have learned from you since. I sure hope you come back to San Antonio soon! The leaves are my favorite, but I tried using snowflakes and they turned out great too!
Thank you again for all the inspiration...

My husband is back from Iraq.
