Wednesday's Worktable with Charlene

Hello, stamping friends! 

Last week, I shared a fall-themed card I made using the polished stone technique.  This week, I'm moving us up to Christmas with this Christmas tree I made using Rubbernecker's Pine Sprig stamp set.  I used the small pine sprig image for my tree, and am sharing this picture of what the sprig image looks like in the stamp set so you have a little perspective of how I created my tree.

I stamped the sprig in various shades of inks (Adirondack Lettuce and Pesto and Ranger's Old Olive and Pine Needles Distress Inks) forming the shape of the tree.  I then used my Moss Copic marker (YG67) to fill in the white space with light brush strokes.  I used Copic marker Dark Suntan (E15) for my tree trunk and outlined the trunk with a Chocolate Chip fine tip marker.

I had fun using my paper piercer to pierce the holes for my garland, which was hand stitched with gold metallic crochet thread. I used this same thread for the bow. I also used a gold leafing pen in between the stitches and for the gold frame around my square panel. My ornaments were punched out of Bravo Burgundy cardstock with a 1/4" circle punch and then covered with Glossy Accents for shine. The small star was punched out of brushed gold cardstock. The lovely green designer paper is by Bo Bunny Back to Basics.

Kittie's Korner Goes Vintage

Welcome to Kittie's Korner.  I have a couple projects to share with you today using two images from the Vintage Kids collection.The first one I made for the Splitcoaststampers Inspiration challenge on Saturday using Hannah.  I already posted it on my blog but wanted to share it here as well because I made a second card using Shirley and I think they make a lovely pair. I created a frame for the Hannah card and used the die cut outs to layer the Shirley card.  Nothing went to waste.

I stamped the image on watercolor paper using Brilliance Pearlescent Chocolate and painted using a light wash of reinkers mixed with water. I created a triple matted frame to enhance add another touch of the mauve around the image. I created a little floral spray to spill out of the little wheelbarrow. I love the tiny little flower and sprigs that I added to Hannah's hat.

 

 

I used the same inks to stamp Shirley but this time I cut her out so I could mount her to stand on the layers that were cut from the frame. I added tiny flowers to her dress and hair as well as creating a floral spray at her feet. I added three score lines at the top and bottom of the mauve layer to add a little more detail. I used a different scalloped punch along the borders but kept the same old fashioned feel as the Hannah card.

  

There is a touch of stickles in all the flowers but it doesn't show well in the photos.

Thanks to Irene, I am here today, instead of yesterday!  SO sorry I did not make it here yesterday or even last night, for that matter!!  Yesterday and Friday were...................quite interesting, thanks to our recent hurricane experience!!  I hope all of you East Coasters faired ok through that terrible storm!!   I will make this brief, since my sump pump does not LIKE to work ALL the time and we STILL have some residual rain waters coming in!!

FRIDAY "EVENING" FUN with javablustamper!!

Hey all!  How are you this evening!  Hope you are taking advantage of the GREAT sales that we have going on!!  I wanted to stop by and share a QUICK creation!!  And by QUICK, I mean literally......QUICK!!  I thought I would share a creation from a recent class I did!!  I had wanted to show the class how easy it was to stamp!!  This is what I came up with and what they made too!!

I have never really done a whole lot of the CAS stuff, because I always seem to add more and more to my projects?  Always felt I HAD to?  BUT......I have to tell you that this CAS thing is GROWING on me!!  Haha!  I used Kraft CS as my base, stamped the RN Dandelion Garden on it in TH Distress ink Walnut Stain & Peeled Paint,stamped a sentiment form the RN Wild Flower Set ,sponged some TH Peeled Paint along the edges, sponged Walnut Stain on the twine, and finished it with some SU Earth Elements buttons!  I REALLY liked it and so did the class!!  Sure hope you do too!!  Have a WONDERFUL evening and I will see you all tomorrow for our, "Saturday Night Special"!!  I cannot wait!!

Karen’s Korner–Background stamps for . . .

Don’t you just love background stamps? They are fabulous and add so much to our creations. For this card, I used the Plaid Panel background stamp in a different way. Isn’t It fun?

I stamped the image Poppies 3 with Rich Cocoa Memento ink and then colored with Copic markers before cutting/embossing with Spellbinders Oval die. I added glitter domes to two of the flowers. Just a strip of small polka dot patterned paper was added behind the oval. The larger dotted paper was mounted onto orange cardstock and embossed with Cuttlebug Spots and Dots folder before adding to the striped paper panel on the front of the orange card. The seam binding was stamped with orange ink using the Plaid Panel background stamp, tied into a bow and then I added the orange button threaded with white floss.

Here is that same plaid background stamp on another fun project. I made these years ago and decided to make one for you today. This is a legal size envelope. I sealed it, cut the top off and punched the bottom edge. Then I stamped the cute daisy image using Rich Cocoa Memento ink and colored with Copic markers. I added the bow and the sentiment which is from the set Party Time. The bottom of the envelope is stamped with the Plaid Panel background stamp which has been inked with Faded Jeans distress ink. THEN, the secret to getting it to fit is to dust off that paper crimper and crimp it. That makes the bottom just a little smaller and so it slides into the top. This is great for leaving a love note, presenting a gift card/certificate or a small gift like earrings!

 

So, break out those background stamps, stamp some ribbon and add it to a card. So much fun! If you give it a try, leave me a link. I would love to see your project.

Wednesday's Worktable with Charlene - Polished Leaves

Hello stamping friends!  Can you believe we are almost to September?  That means fall will soon be here for those of us living in the northern United States.  Fall happens to be one of my favorite seasons.  The air is crisp and fresh, and I love the smell of the fallen leaves.  Therefore, I chose to make a masculine, fall-themed card for your viewing pleasure this week.

I used the beautiful leaf images from Rubbernecker's Leaf Group (SKU #868 869 870) and the Grid background (SKU #451).  The grid background was heat embossed with copper embossing powder.

 I used the polished stone technique for the leaves.  Polished stone is a very simple technique with beautiful results.  I did this by applying drops of Adirondack inks in Lettuce, Butterscotch, Hazelnut, Cranberry, and Copper Mixative onto the felt pad on my Ranger blender tool (you can also use a cotton ball), along with a couple drops of Adirondack Alcohol Blending Solution.  I dabbed the felt all over a piece of glossy white cardstock, which creates the polished stone effect.  I then stamped the large leaf three times using Stazon Black ink onto the polished stone cardstock and cut them out.  You can see that I ended up using only one of the leaves here;  I'll keep the other two in my stash for future cards.  I inked the smaller leaf from this stamp set in the Adirondack Cranberry ink pad and then applied Adirondack's Copper Mixative on the leaf's outer edge.

Here are a couple close up photos of the leaves.  Aren't they pretty with this technique?

 

 
See the orange designer paper behind the checkerboard dry embossed vanilla cardstock?  I edged it in copper with copper embossing powder.  I did this by laying a post-it note that was slightly smaller in size to the orange paper over it and running my Versamark marker pen around the outer edges before applying the embossing powder.  It's a nice way to get a matted effect when you don't have the color cardstock you want.....in my case copper.

To finish off the card,  I used a straight-edge corner punch on two opposing corners of the grid background and finished the card off with the three copper brads.

TUESDAYS WITH THE TEAM

Hey everyone…Maria here today for Tuesday’s with the Team. 

Summer has officially drawn to an end for me TODAY!  All three of my kids are back in school and I’ve got some mixed emotions about it.  I’m so sad to see the best summer EVER end but at the same time getting back to a schedule again sounds pretty good.  The summer was full of tons of FUN but also CHAOS…I need some momma time again.

But I couldn’t send my kids back to school without a little bit of me with them all day…so I made them backpack tags with their names on them.  I was surprised at just how much they LOVED them.  Each was unique to each child and the one I’m sharing here today was for my daughter Mattea.  She has a fun, sassy personality and picked out a fun, sassy backpack this year.  It’s full of bright colors and I wanted the tag to match.

 

I used one of my favorite Rubbernecker stamps for this tag {Wild Flower Set} sku:465.  I love the tall stick flowers and they were just the fun style I wanted.  I inked up the rubber directly with ink markers (mine are from Stampin Up) and then stamped on cream colored cardstock.  I had to do this twice side by side to fill in the area I wanted and to get lots of color.  I matted the cardstock with some fun Jillibean Soup paper and stitched around the edges.  I adhered a piece of the same pattern paper on the back just so the stitching would be hidden.  I printed her name on plain ole computer paper and used some label punches to dress it up.  Then I laminated it with some wallet size laminating sheets I picked up at Walmart.  I couldn’t resist hot gluing a button with twine to the outside.  I’m sure it won’t hold up all school year but it was too cute not to add ;)  I used my crop-a-dile to punch a hole in the corner and then added an old key ring.  I knotted a bunch of ribbon to the ring and tied on some twine and buttons for more FUN.  The whole project took about 20 minutes and it’s such a unique little project.  I’m hoping this helps keep her from losing her backpack this year but you never know ;)

Kittie's Korner- Scalloped Flower Tutorial

 
Welcome to Kittie's Korner.  I shared a project with you last week using a flower created with scalloped circles. I had many requests for a tutorial on how I made the flower and I am going to share that with you today.

 

Supplies for Flower:  Scalloped Circle Nestabilities, 1 1/4", 1", and 3/4" Circle Punches, Decorative Scalloped Scissors, Martha Stewart Hydrangea Punch, Fiskars 1/4" Flower Punch, Adhesive (I use Ranger Matte Accents), Mouse Pad or Piercing Mat, Stylus, Snips

 

1.  Create all your circles with your punches and dies.

 

2.  Cut scallops around your three smaller circles with mini scalloped scissors. They don't have to be perfect....mine aren't.

 

3.  Cut a pie shape out by cutting 1 or 2 scallops out of each circle.
 

4.  Glue edges back together.

 

5.  Cut half way down toward the center between every other scallop.  You may want to cut only one out of the smaller circles.

 

6. Repeat 3, 4, and 5 to complete all of the circles.

 

7.  Place flowers on mouse pad or piercing mat and soften the centers with a stylus.  This helps for the flowers.

 

8.  Form the smaller flower blossoms with a small tipped stylus and pressing down into the mat.

 

9.  Attach layers together with adhesive.  I started with the largest and finished with the smallest. The paper piercer helps postion and hold flowerlayers in place.

 

10:  Finish your flower.

 

 

11. Finish your project.  I used a sponge to apply Regal Rose ink to the layers to bring the flower to life.  I attached a punched layer to a 4 x 4" card front and applied flower and foliage.
